Hole Games Tips: How to Grow Faster and Win More
Updated 2026-10-25
Hole games look simple. You move a hole, things fall in, the hole gets bigger. But if you have ever finished a timed round with half the map still standing, or been swallowed by a rival two seconds after you felt safe, you know there is more to it. These tips apply to almost every hole game and black hole game on this site, from city-eaters like Sink Hole to short level games like Black Hole Swallow Master. The first parts are general habits; Part 6 has game-specific advice based on what we saw when we played each game on 25 October 2026.
Part 1: Growing faster
1. Size first, points later
Your growth rate depends on your current size, so the first seconds of a round are the most important. Ignore anything that will not fit yet and head straight for clusters of the smallest objects: cones, bins, people, fruit, loose blocks. A few seconds of fast early growth will pay back many times over.
2. Look for density, not value
A single valuable object is rarely worth a detour. A street lined with dozens of small props usually is. Before you move, take a second to scan the level and find the densest area near you.
3. Test the next tier often
As you grow, objects that bounced off your rim a moment ago will suddenly fit. Make a habit of brushing past medium-sized objects every few seconds. When one tips in, that tier is open and you can switch targets.
4. Use the rim
Objects that are half over the edge often fall when you nudge them from a different angle. If something is almost in, try approaching from the side rather than the center.
Part 2: Moving efficiently
5. Move in lines and loops
Zig-zagging wastes time on empty ground. Follow roads, walls, rows of blocks or the edge of the map. In block-based games such as Holecraft.io, running along a row of blocks can swallow many of them in one pass.
6. Never cross the same empty space twice
Plan a rough loop: clear one area, move to the next, and end near the biggest objects. Coming back across ground you already cleared is pure lost time.
7. Sweep like a lawnmower in completion levels
Some games, like Black Hole Fill 3D, judge you on how much of the level you cleared; its result screen shows a percentage. Sweeping the level in parallel lanes makes sure no straggler is left in a corner.
Part 3: Beating the timer
8. Save the giants for the end
On timed rounds, the largest objects are usually only reachable late. Note where they are early, then spend the last part of the round collecting them when your hole is at full size.
9. Do not panic in the final seconds
Short, controlled movements beat wild swipes. With a large hole you swallow plenty just by moving steadily through a dense area.
Part 4: Dealing with rival holes
10. Compare sizes before you commit
In modes with other holes, a rival that is about your size is dangerous: you may not be able to eat it, and it may be growing faster. Only chase holes that are clearly smaller than you.
11. Grow at the edges, fight in the center
Early in a round, stay where the competition is thin and build size. Move into busy areas once you are one of the larger holes. In Holey Battle Royale, watch the Alive counter: it started at 90 in our round and drops as holes are eaten, so the arena gets more dangerous as it goes on. In Sink Hole's Battle Royale mode the menu mentions a safe zone, so keep an eye on where it is.
Part 5: Choosing the right game
12. Match the game to your mood
Not every hole game is meant to be competitive. If you want to relax, pick a game with no rivals and no countdown, such as Super Slime Black Hole (see our list of hole games with no timer). If you want a fight, try Sink Hole's battle-style modes or Holey Battle Royale. If a friend is next to you, Hole Upper For 2 Players lets you go head-to-head on one keyboard. And if you like seeing steady progress, Hole Master lets you buy upgrades between levels.
Part 6: Game-specific tips
Sink Hole: read the colour tags and chain combos
Rival holes in Sink Hole carry green or red tags. Green means smaller than you and safe to chase; red means bigger, so keep away. Swallowing things quickly one after another builds a combo multiplier; we saw it reach x25. Grab power-ups when they appear (Turbo, Magnet, x2 Points and Mega Size), and claim the Daily Reward each day: the seven-day calendar goes from 300 to 4,000 coins.
Black Hole Swallow Master: collect more than the target
Each run gives you 45 seconds and a target (50 on our first level), then switches to a boss fight. In our attempt we entered the boss phase with 21 shells against a boss with 300 health and the level failed, so treat the target as a minimum and keep collecting until the clock runs out.
Black Hole Fill 3D: choose between Size and Time
Before a level you can spend coins on SIZE or TIME (25 coins each on level 1). If you keep running out of time with items left, buy Time; if items sit on your rim and will not drop, buy Size.
Hole Master: upgrades make the loop faster
Money starts at 20 and each of Radius, Speed and Capacity costs $20 at first. Capacity means fewer trips to the Money Maker machine, Radius lets bigger things fit, and Speed shortens every trip. Since we saw no timer, there is no penalty for taking it slowly.
Holecraft.io: pick the right mode
Classic and Solo last two minutes; Solo's goal is to eat 50% of the village with no rivals. Battle has 20 holes and no respawns, so play it more carefully than Classic. The HUD shows what you can eat next (for example villagers, sheep, TNT), which tells you which tier to aim for.
Hole Upper For 2 Players: share the keyboard
Player 1 (blue) uses WASD and player 2 (red) uses the arrow keys on one keyboard, with the screen split down the middle. Sit side by side so your hands do not collide, and agree on a best-of-three before you start.
Part 7: Ads and loading
The games are free and show video ads, usually before the game starts and sometimes after your first clicks. In our tests the smoothest approach was to let the ad's countdown finish and then press its skip button once, rather than clicking around the game area while an ad is loading. If a game stays blank, reload the page; the 3D games need WebGL, so an old browser or disabled hardware acceleration can stop them from drawing. More detail is on our free hole games online page.
Quick checklist
- Start on the densest cluster of tiny objects.
- Move along lines and loops, not zig-zags.
- Keep testing bigger objects as you grow.
- Save the biggest targets for the end of a timed round.
- Only chase rivals that are clearly smaller.
- Watch for game-specific signals: colour tags, Alive counters and targets.
- Pick a game that fits how you want to play today.
