About Sink Hole

Sink Hole (its title screen reads SINKHOLE CITY) is the most complete city-eating game on PlayHoleGames. You start as a small hole in a 3D city and swallow anything narrower than your rim: people first, then cars and trees, then buses, houses and towers. Rival holes roam the same streets, and the in-game How To Play screen states the rule for them plainly: holes with a green tag are smaller than you and can be eaten, holes with a red tag are bigger and should be avoided.

The main menu offers four modes. Classic puts 8 holes in the city for 2 minutes 30 seconds; the biggest hole at the end wins, and if you are swallowed you respawn smaller instead of being knocked out. Solo Rush (unlocks at player level 2) is just you and the city for 2:30. Battle Royale (level 4) has ten holes, a safe zone that closes in and no respawn. Wipeout (level 6) asks you to swallow 100% of the city with no time limit, and you try to beat your best time.

Around the matches there is a light progression system. Your profile has an editable name, a level and an XP bar, and matches earn coins. A Daily Reward calendar pays out for seven days in a row: 300, 500, 800, 1,200, 1,800, 2,500 and 4,000 coins plus XP, and the game says that a full seven-day streak multiplies the next week's rewards by 1.25. Skins unlock with your level, from Neon Grid at level 2 through Magma Core, Toxic Waste, Frost Abyss and Galaxy up to Gold Rush (level 12) and Prism (level 15); further skins are marked as challenges. A Missions screen sets small goals such as swallowing 15 trees, 15 cars or 9 people in one match for 100 to 120 coins, and completed missions are replaced by new ones. A Stats screen keeps your records.

During a match the screen shows your level ring, your score and current rank, a pause button, the countdown and a live leaderboard with the top five holes and your own position. Rivals have names such as Juno, Kaito, Pixel, Luna, Vortex and Mateo. Each match opens with a 3-2-1 countdown and the reminder to move with the mouse or WASD.

How to play Sink Hole

  1. Pick a mode from the main menu. Only Classic is open at first; Solo Rush, Battle Royale and Wipeout unlock at levels 2, 4 and 6.
  2. Wait for the 3-2-1 countdown, then move with the mouse pointer or with WASD / the arrow keys.
  3. Swallow people, cars and trees to grow. Bigger holes can take buses, houses and towers.
  4. Keep swallowing without stopping to build a combo. The How To Play screen says it goes up to x25 and multiplies your points.
  5. Drive through the glowing beams on the map for power-ups: Turbo, Magnet, x2 Points or Mega Size.
  6. Eat holes with green tags, run from holes with red tags, and keep an eye on the clock and your rank.

Controls

DesktopMouse pointer, or WASD / arrow keys, to move. The pause button is in the top bar next to the timer.
Mobile & tabletWe tested with a mouse and keyboard. The hole follows the pointer, so on touch screens drag your finger where you want it to go.

Tips & strategy

  • Classic respawns you smaller rather than ending your game, so an early mistake is not fatal. Battle Royale has no respawn, so play it more carefully.
  • Check the tag colour before you approach a rival: green means you can eat it, red means it can eat you.
  • Protect your combo. Follow streets lined with people and cars so there is always something to swallow next.
  • Power-up beams are easy to spot from a distance. Magnet and Turbo help most early; x2 Points and Mega Size pay off in busy areas.
  • Claim the Daily Reward every day. Day seven pays 4,000 coins, far more than day one.
  • Wipeout has no timer, so a methodical route around the whole city beats rushing.
