What makes a black hole game?
The core rule is the same as any hole game: things fall in when they are smaller than you. Black hole games usually add a space or physics flavour. The hole is drawn as a dark vortex with a glowing rim, objects get pulled toward it, and some games add a pull radius so nearby items slide in on their own. The result is a slightly more dramatic, cosmic take on the classic sinkhole.
Inside this small genre there is plenty of variety. Black Hole Swallow Master gives you 45 seconds to swallow a target number of items and then a boss fight. Super Slime Black Hole replaces the vortex with a living slime that absorbs whatever it touches. Holecraft.io sets everything in a blocky voxel world. Black Hole Fill 3D asks you to clear as much of each level as you can against a clock that starts at 130, and Attack Hole Game is a short portrait run against a crowd of club-carrying figures.
Which black hole game should you play first?
- Brand new to the genre: Super Slime Black Hole. WASD to move, no rivals, and we saw no countdown.
- You like puzzles and completion: Black Hole Fill 3D. The result screen shows the percentage you cleared, so careful sweeping pays off.
- You want a score to beat: Holecraft.io (2-minute Classic and Solo) or Black Hole Swallow Master (45 seconds).
- You want action: Black Hole Swallow Master or Hole Attack Master Collector, where a short collecting run is followed by a boss (shells against a 300-health boss in the first, candy cane and lollipop attacks against a Santa-suit boss in the second).
- It is December: Hole Attack Master Collector has a Christmas theme.
Tips for black hole games
Most black hole games reward the same habits. Grow on small objects before you go after anything big. Plan a loop through the level so you never cross empty space twice. When something large sits on the rim and will not drop, leave it for later; you will be bigger in a few seconds. On timed levels, finish with the largest objects so the final seconds count the most. See the full hole games tips guide for more.
Black hole games on phones
All of these games run in mobile browsers. Several are drawn in portrait (Black Hole Swallow Master, Attack Hole Game, Hole Attack Master Collector) and suit a phone held upright; Super Slime Black Hole and Hole Master were built around WASD in our tests, so they are easiest with a keyboard. Turn your phone sideways for wide games and use the fullscreen button under the game for the best view.
