About Wool Sort

Wool Sort (full name Wool Sort: Yarn Color Puzzle) is the most polished-looking game in our sorting section. The title screen is a warm wooden room with a shelf of yarn balls, a window onto a sunset and a fluffy sheep knitting in the corner. It shows your progress as "Level 1 / 50" with a star total, and lets you choose a difficulty before you start: COZY, CRAFTY or MASTER. Below are a big PLAY button and a LEVEL SELECT button.

The rules are classic ball sort, with yarn balls in glass tubes. Level 1 had five tubes, three filled with four balls each in red, yellow and blue and two empty. You click a tube and then the tube you want to move to. As in many modern sorts, a run of same-coloured balls on top moves together, and that whole group counts as one move.

The move count is the heart of the game. A panel on the left shows LEVEL, MOVES and the star targets for that level. On level 1 three stars needed 14 moves or fewer and two stars needed 18 or fewer; on level 2 the targets dropped to 11 and 15. We finished level 1 in 8 moves and got "PERFECTLY SORTED!" with three stars and buttons for NEXT, RETRY and MENU. Finished tubes are marked with a tick.

The same panel holds the help buttons: UNDO with 4 uses, HINT with 3, RESTART, MENU and a SOUND ON toggle. The limited hints make the Master difficulty feel fair without letting you lean on them.

If you are hunting for three stars, this is the sort that rewards planning. Every click on a group of balls is one move, so moving a matching run in one go is always cheaper than moving balls one by one into a temporary tube.

When we tested it, a video ad started by itself before the title screen appeared, in both tests, and another ad played when we finished level 1, just before the result screen.

Tips & strategy

  • Read the star targets in the left panel before you start; they change from level to level.
  • Move whole runs of the same colour together; it costs one move instead of several.
  • Undo (4) and Hint (3) are limited, so save them for later levels.
  • If you want a calmer game, pick COZY; MASTER is there when the early levels feel too easy.
