About Nut Sort

Nut Sort (listed as Nut Sort: Color Puzzle Game) swaps tubes for bolts. Each bolt stands on a small round base and carries a stack of chunky 3D hex nuts, and your job is to move the nuts until every bolt holds one colour. It is the same thinking as a ball sort, but the nuts spin down the thread when they land, which makes every move feel satisfying.

There is no title screen. After the Unity logo the game drops you straight into a tutorial: two bolts, one with a single green nut and one with three, and a pointing hand that shows you to tap the first bolt and then the second. The nut flies across, the full bolt bursts into confetti and a "VICTORY" banner with a gold crown appears, with a green Next button.

Level 2 had three bolts that each hold four nuts: two mixed bolts in red and green and one empty bolt. Here we learned an important rule: when the top of a bolt has two or more nuts of the same colour, they move together in one go. That makes levels quicker to solve, but you need to check that the target bolt has room for the whole group. We solved it in five moves.

From level 3 the full interface appears: a settings gear, the level name and a restart button across the top, and two boosters at the bottom. One is undo, which showed a badge of 3, and the other, whose icon is a bolt with a plus sign (an extra bolt), showed a badge of 1. Level 3 had four bolts, two of them empty, again in red and green.

During our session we did not see a video ad, from the first tutorial through to level 3. That may change on later levels or in future versions of the game.

Nut Sort is a good pick if you find glass tubes and balls a bit plain: the puzzles are equally easy to read, and the 3D nuts and the screwing animation give it a hands-on feel.

How to play Nut Sort

  1. Wait for the game to load; the first level starts by itself.
  2. Tap or click a bolt to lift its top nut (or its top group of same-coloured nuts).
  3. Tap another bolt to drop them there. The bolt must be empty or have the same colour on top, with enough space.
  4. Fill every bolt with a single colour to win, then press Next.
  5. Use the undo or extra-bolt boosters at the bottom if you get stuck.

Tips & strategy

  • Matching nuts on top move as a group, so count the free spaces on the target bolt first.
  • Use an empty bolt to collect the colour that has the most nuts already on top.
  • Save the extra-bolt booster (only 1 at level 3) for a level where you are truly stuck.
  • The restart button at the top is free; undo has a limited count.
